and much, much more! |
Chris was recently hired as Senior Executive in charge of Human
Resources, and needed to prepare a Human Resources strategic plan for the organization. As
part of his strategic plan, he needed to conduct an Organizational Climate Survey
to establish a set of baseline measures to analyze the organizations current
effectiveness and level of operation. He asked around the organization, trying to find out
how the organization conducted this type of survey in the past, and discovered the
organization had no set system. Surveys had been erratic, either done in-house or
contracted out depending on the manager in charge. Chris decided to invest a little time
in setting up a system for the Climate Survey process before sending his first one out.
A friend at another organization once mentioned that she had attended a Hubbard Measurement & Productivity Institute workshop, and was introduced to their powerful Organizational Climate Survey Software. Chris decided to review this H&H product and compare how his organization had administered surveys in the past.
When surveys were done in house, the person in charge usually drafted the questionnaire in a word processor, sometimes using that as the form. Often, they tried to convince someone in the Graphics department to polish the layout since professional-looking surveys collect more responses from a more representative range of employees across diverse groups. They then passed this form to the IT (Information Technology) department for a database design. When all the responses had been entered, they exported the data to a spreadsheet or statistics package for figure generation, then back to a word processor for the written report. Surveys contracted out were less of a hassle, but sometimes expensive, and often less responsive to changes and interactive analysis.
The Hubbard Organizational Climate Survey Software, on the other hand, seemed to bypass most of these hassles. The questionnaire almost polished itself, with automatic layout, flexible overrides, and WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) design. Since the form design set up the database, there is no need for a custom database program. Another feature Chris appreciated was the flexible reporting. Analysis could be started when data was only partially entered, then polished into his presentation overhead slides and printed statistical and graphical reports -- all within the Hubbard Organizational Climate Survey Software. So Chris decided to give this program a try.
